PRIVACY POLICY
1. Summary
Shisō Atlas does not require an account and does not include advertising, developer analytics, developer crash reporting, or social-tracking SDKs.
Reader preferences, highlights, notes, bookmarks, reading history and positions, imported-document content, downloaded books, and text selected for translation are processed and stored locally on your device.
We do not sell your personal information.
2. Information We Do Not Intentionally Collect
We do not intentionally collect or store the following on our own servers:
- Your highlights, notes, bookmarks, reading history, or reading positions
- The content of documents you import
- Account credentials, because Shisō Atlas does not operate an account system
- Your contacts, photos, microphone input, camera input, or precise location
- Advertising identifiers or a developer-created user profile
3. Information Stored Locally on Your Device
Shisō Atlas stores app data locally to provide its reading and library features, including:
This information remains on your device unless you choose to export it, clear it, remove a downloaded book, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app.
- Reader preferences and accessibility settings
- Highlights, notes, and bookmarks
- Reading history, progress, and positions
- Cached and offline book packages
- Imported-document content and the access needed to reopen a document you selected
4. Backup and Export
Automatic Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer are disabled for Shisō Atlas. App files, databases, preferences, and personal reading data are excluded from Android backup.
If you use Export reading data, Shisō Atlas creates a JSON file containing highlights, notes, bookmarks, and reading positions. The file is written only to the destination you choose through Android's document picker. Shisō Atlas does not upload or retain a copy.
5. Network Features and Third-Party Services
Shisō Atlas can connect to the internet for specific reader-requested features. It does not attach your reading history, notes, advertising identifiers, or an account identifier to these requests.
5.1 Book and Content Downloads
When you request a downloadable book, the app uses HTTPS to retrieve the relevant package from the configured content host. The host may receive ordinary connection information, such as an IP address and request timing, that is technically necessary to deliver and protect the service.
5.2 On-device Translation
Shisō Atlas uses Google ML Kit Translation. If a required language model is not installed, Google ML Kit may download it to your device. Text you select for translation and the translation result are processed on-device and are not sent to Google.
The ML Kit SDK sends Google limited device and app information, device or installation identifiers, configured source and destination languages, feature events such as model downloads, error codes, and performance metrics. Google describes this data as being used for SDK diagnostics and usage analytics, encrypted in transit, and not shared with third parties.
5.3 Read Aloud
Read aloud is provided by the Android text-to-speech engine installed or selected on your device. A voice identified as a network voice may send the text being spoken to that engine's provider. That processing is governed by the provider's own privacy terms and settings.
5.4 External Links
Source, license, and policy links open in your browser. Your use of an external website is governed by that website's own privacy policy.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell or rent personal information.
We do not share your documents, annotations, reading activity, or preferences with third parties for advertising, marketing, analytics, or profiling.
Google processes the limited ML Kit diagnostics and usage metrics described above. Google states that ML Kit does not transfer this telemetry to third parties.
Infrastructure and feature providers may also process limited technical information needed to deliver a requested content download, language model, network voice, or external page.
7. Permissions and Device Access
Shisō Atlas uses limited access necessary for app functionality:
- Internet access for requested content packages and language-model downloads
- Android's document picker when you choose to import a document or export reading data
- The Android text-to-speech service when you choose Read aloud
8. Retention and Deletion
Local reading data remains on your device until you clear it, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app. Downloaded and cached books remain until you remove them, clear the applicable cache, clear app storage, or uninstall.
Settings › Personal data › Clear reading data removes highlights, notes, bookmarks, and locally stored reading positions. Android's app settings can remove all remaining app-private data.
Because Shisō Atlas does not operate user accounts or a server-side reading profile, there is no account record to request that we delete.
Gokalp Studio does not receive or control Google ML Kit telemetry and cannot delete that off-device diagnostic data. Google's handling of that telemetry is governed by Google's privacy terms.
9. Data Security
Requested first-party content downloads use HTTPS. Personal reading data is kept in app-private local storage and excluded from Android backup and device transfer.
No method of local storage or electronic transmission is completely secure. You are responsible for securing access to your device and any exported files you create.
10. Children's Privacy
Shisō Atlas is a general-audience philosophy reading application and is not specifically directed to children.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through our own servers.
11. Sources and Rights
Atlas articles identify research sources in the reader. Journey book packages carry edition, provider, contributor, source, license, and attribution records. A source being publicly readable does not by itself mean that Shisō Atlas treats it as permission to redistribute the source.
12. Your Choices
You can control your information by:
- Exporting or clearing personal reading data from Settings
- Removing cached or offline books
- Choosing whether to import documents or use network-backed features
- Selecting an offline text-to-speech voice
- Clearing all local app data through Android settings or uninstalling the app
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice in the app or on this page.
