Hone / Privacy Policy

PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy describes how Hone (“the App”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Android application published by Gokalp Cayci (“we,” “us,” or “our”).

If you have questions about this policy, contact us at support@gokalpcayci.me.

1. Overview

Hone is a local-first music practice app. It helps you import reference audio, loop sections, record takes, and use practice features such as Grind mode.

We do not operate a user account system in the App. Your projects, recordings, and related data are stored primarily on your device unless you choose to share them using your device’s share features or backup tools.

2. Information we collect

When you use Hone, the App may create and store the following on your device:

This content stays on your device unless you export or share it, or it is included in a device backup as described below.

  • Audio recordings (takes you record in the App)
  • Imported reference audio you choose to add to a project
  • Project data (such as project names, instrument labels, loop regions, notes, and related metadata)
  • Take metadata (such as duration, starred status, and organization within projects)
  • App preferences (such as display settings, practice-related preferences, and entitlement state for free or Pro features)

2.2 Device permissions

Hone may request the following permissions:

You can revoke microphone access in your device settings. Some features will not work without it.

PermissionWhy we use it
Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO)To record audio takes during practice.
Modify audio settingsTo manage audio routing and playback/recording behavior during practice sessions.
Wake lockTo help keep practice/recording sessions running reliably while the App is in use.

2.3 Diagnostic and usage data (Firebase)

We use Google Firebase services to understand how the App is used and to improve stability:

Firebase Analytics collects usage events (for example, when recording starts or stops, when Grind mode is used, or when a free usage limit is reached). Event parameters are limited to product context (such as whether Pro is unlocked or which practice mode was used). We do not intentionally send project IDs, raw audio, or file paths in analytics events.

Firebase Crashlytics collects crash reports and non-fatal error reports to help us fix bugs. Reports may include device model, operating system version, and technical context about what the App was doing when an error occurred.

Firebase is operated by Google LLC. Data processed by Firebase is handled according to Google’s privacy policy and Firebase terms.

2.4 Purchases (Google Play)

If you purchase Hone Pro or other in-app products through Google Play, payment and billing are processed by Google. We do not receive your full payment card details.

We may receive purchase-related information needed to unlock features (such as whether a purchase was completed or restored). That information is used to manage your entitlement to Pro features on your device.

2.5 Information we do not collect

We do not intentionally collect:

  • A Hone user account (email/password login is not required to use the App)
  • Your contacts, photos, or general device files outside what you import or record in the App
  • Precise location data
  • Health data

3. How we use information

We use information to:

We do not sell your personal information.

  • Provide core App functionality (playback, looping, recording, take management, Grind mode)
  • Remember your preferences and entitlement state (free vs. Pro)
  • Measure feature usage and improve the product
  • Diagnose crashes and technical issues
  • Process and restore in-app purchases through Google Play

4. How information is stored

Most Hone data is stored locally, including:

  • SQLite database (projects, takes, and related metadata)
  • Audio and waveform files in the App’s private storage
  • Preference data (including Pro unlock state and usage counters for free-tier features)

4.2 Android backup

The App may allow data to be included in Android backup / restore mechanisms if enabled on your device and by your device manufacturer. Backup behavior depends on your device settings and Android version.

4.3 Cloud services

Usage analytics and crash reporting data are sent to Firebase (Google) as described above. We do not upload your recordings to our own servers as part of normal App operation.

5. Sharing information

We may share information only in these situations:

We do not share your recordings with advertisers.

  • With Google (Firebase, Google Play) — for analytics, crash reporting, and billing as described above.
  • When you choose to share — for example, if you use Android’s share sheet to export or send a file from the App.
  • Legal requirements — if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect rights, safety, and security.

6. Data retention

  • Local App data remains on your device until you delete it (for example, by deleting takes, projects, or uninstalling the App).
  • Analytics and crash data retained by Google/Firebase is governed by Google’s retention practices and your Firebase/Google account settings where applicable.
  • Purchase records are managed through Google Play according to Google’s policies.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of personal data.

On your device, you can delete projects, takes, or imported audio within the App; revoke microphone permission in system settings; or uninstall the App to remove locally stored App data (subject to backups already created on your device or cloud account).

For Firebase / Google data, you may be able to limit ad/analytics personalization through your Google account and device settings. For Crashlytics and Analytics data held by Google, see Google’s privacy controls.

To request help or ask questions about this policy, email support@gokalpcayci.me.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, or other regions with data protection laws, you may have additional rights (such as access, erasure, or objection). Contact us using the email above and we will respond as required by applicable law.

8. Children’s privacy

Hone is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

9. International users

If you use Hone outside your home country, your information may be processed in countries where we or our service providers (such as Google) operate, including the United States. Those countries may have different data protection laws than your country.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to a mobile app of this type. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure. You are responsible for securing your device and any backups you create.

Because Hone is local-first, keeping your device secure is important to protecting your recordings.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice in the App or on the page where this policy is published.

Continued use of the App after the effective date of an updated policy means you accept the updated policy, to the extent permitted by law.
