PRIVACY POLICY

GeoMute for X is a local-first Chrome extension for X/Twitter. This Privacy Policy explains how GeoMute handles information when you use the extension.

1. Summary

GeoMute for X does not require an account and does not operate a backend service.

The extension runs locally in your browser. It adds country-signal badges and can blur or collapse posts from countries you choose based on your local settings.

We do not sell your personal information.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

GeoMute does not collect or send the following to our servers:

  • Your X/Twitter account credentials
  • Post body text, direct messages, or private messages
  • Analytics, tracking events, or advertising identifiers
  • IP-based location or precise location
  • Health, financial, payment, or identity verification information

3. Information Stored Locally

GeoMute stores limited data in Chrome storage on your device so the extension can remember your choices and work consistently between sessions.

  • Extension settings
  • Manual handle overrides you create
  • Country-signal cache entries for normalized handles
  • Reveal state for posts you choose to temporarily show

4. Permissions

GeoMute requests only the permissions needed for its core functionality.

PermissionWhy we use it
StorageTo save your local settings, manual overrides, cache entries, and reveal state.
Host access for x.com and twitter.comTo read visible page signals, add badges, and apply your local blur or collapse filters on X/Twitter pages.

5. Optional Profile Lookup

If you enable Deep profile lookup, GeoMute may load public X/Twitter profile or account data locally for unknown handles using your active X/Twitter session.

This lookup is used only to improve local country-signal detection. GeoMute does not send this data to a GeoMute server.

6. Remote Code and Third Parties

GeoMute does not use remote code. The extension does not include analytics, tracking pixels, external country lookup APIs, or a GeoMute backend.

Network requests made by optional lookup features are made from your browser to X/Twitter pages as part of using the extension on X/Twitter.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or transfer your personal information.

We do not use or transfer user data for unrelated purposes, advertising, creditworthiness, or lending decisions.

8. Your Choices

You control GeoMute data through your browser and the extension UI.

  • Change or reset extension settings
  • Remove manual overrides
  • Clear cached country-signal data
  • Disable optional lookup features
  • Uninstall the extension to remove its local extension data from Chrome

9. Children’s Privacy

GeoMute is a browser utility for X/Twitter and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Effective date" above.
